Diagnosis and rehabilitation
The project REFRESH – Regeneration of boreholes in the Sahel region aims to strengthen the capacities of local authorities by implementing a mobile workshop to diagnose, maintain and, in some cases, regenerate ageing boreholes.
Members of the current INTERFACE-EAU team were instrumental in the development of this highly specialized component.
Below you will find a report on the state of a number of boreholes used in various humanitarian projects. The report clearly demonstrates and justifies the rolling out of activities such as the REFRESH project initially created and developed in Niger.
Case studies
This investigation which focused on the fluoride contamination of the Lullemeden sedimentary basin eventually led to the rehabilitation of several boreholes. A very specific technique was developed consisting in patching the contaminating layer directly inside the borehole. This technique is now part of the DHR’s protocol for borehole rehabilitation. The results of this study will soon be published on PloS One.
Below you will find an abstract and a full presentation of the study.
